Sensei Tsutomu Chida Seminar in Moscow. 2012-05-20

We meet Chida Sensei at Sheremetyevo Airport on 17th May 2012 and this visit for the first time he travelled alone without an assistant took the Aerostar Express to the center of town and settled Sensei into our friends apartment where we enjoyed a meal and chatted about the seminar and things in general, the next day was a rest day for Sensei after his long travel from Japan.

Saturday 19th saw the first day of the seminar and both Sensei and I were delighted to see many students of Aikido from different parts of Russia including Kamchatka, Vladivostok, Saratov, Balakovо, St.Petersburg and students from other schools in Moscow.

Sensei’s teaching as always was very clear and dynamic and thanks to our excellent translator Sergei Melnikov easily understandable. Later in the evening enjoying dinner Sensei commentated on the high standard of everyone and the wonderful friendly atmosphere between students, and I would like to say thank you to all of our guests for showing the true spirit of Aikido through open friendliness and integration both on and off the tatami and I would love to see you on future seminars.

Sunday the second day of our seminar saw Sensei running through basic techniques with detailed explanation, two of my students took Shinza for Godan in the afternoon and were successful, this was followed by a short demonstration by Sensei, unfortunately cut short because Sensei has very bad problems with his knees.

The evening saw us at our Honbu Dojo for a Tatami party which lasted until about 3 am, the party also gave people the chance to sit with Sensei and chat informally, we were also celebrating the arrival of a new baby for Sensei’s Olga and Dima.

On Monday we took Sensei to our little Datcha (cabin).  I was a bit worried because there is not much to do there but to enjoy clean fresh air and to relax but Sensei liked it very much saying that for the first time in a long time he totally felt relaxed, and he enjoyed working in the garden with us. Sensei also keeps a journal and spent time updating it.

Wednesday we travelled back to Moscow and in the evening went to our friends restaurant the Garibaldi where we had a super evening, then back to the apartment where Sensei and I talked the night away.

Sadly we had to say goodbye to Sensei and he left in the evening to return to Japan loaded with gifts and carrying our affection, we left the airport with his promise to come again soon.

I know from the comments that I have heard and from the emails that I have received that everyone enjoyed the seminar, lets meet again .
